RGB

2006, metal, vellum, wood, paint, glue, video projectors, DVD players, 8' x 6' x 5'

I used three projectors and three screens installed in a triangular formation. They are divided into alternating one-inch wide strips allowing for the projected imagery to be combined in an abstract but still distinguishable manner. Each screen has a different color projected on it with Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) corresponding to video imagery of Fire, Water and Sky. In making the piece triangular and suspended, it permitted the viewer to enter the work and become immersed in the meditative imagery. The triangular framework and altered screens makes for three levels of viewing; the interior of the triangular screen formation, it’s exterior and also the walls of the surrounding space.

The Forest, the River and the City

2007, vellum, wood, paint, glue, video projectors, DVD players, 8' x 6' x 6’

The piece consists of three cut vellum paper screens that intersect in a manner similar to an asterisk (*) with three video projections. The screens are cut into strips, which allows the projected imagery to be combined in an abstract but still distinguishable manner. One projection is of forest scenery, one of urban/city scenery and the other riverside/suburban scenery, hence the title. The physical movement of walking and the movement of the camera are different for each video loop.

The Rooster

2007, feathers, thread, video projectors, DVD players, 8' x 13' x 6'

This video sculpture consists of a mass of feathers suspended by threads and two projectors. The feathers fade from a flat more regular arrangement on one side to a more random dissipated mass on the other side. The flat side acts as a screen to receive the narrative display of regularly changing still images, while the other more sculptural side receives the slowly moving abstract video imagery. As a result of the textural quality of the screen the images are more abstract. The images tell the story of the life and death of a rooster. The mesmerizing sculpture emphasizes the contrasts between moving and still image, abstraction and representation, and sculpture and video.

Stratus

2006, steel, milk, PVC tubing, fountain pump, video projector, DVD player, 12’ x 5’ x 4’

This video documentation of the work shows the screen onto which the image is projected. The imagery is various layers of cloud footage edited so that the clouds move in opposing directions. A two-inch deep pool of milk forms the screen, which circulates to the ceiling via a fountain pump and drips into the pool. The milk captures the image and the drips interact intermittently with the imagery to create a contemplative piece.

Vis-à-vis

2005, Color Video, 2 minutes 20 seconds

I made this piece by recording my head slowly moving in different directions. Then I projected this on my girlfriend’s head and gave her verbal instructions to match her movements to my head’s movements. I excluded the verbal instructions because they were unnecessary and distracting.
